      Hard to get anything done.

      Pros

      Great benefits, job stability, some ability to work from home, lots of PTO.

      Cons

      Nothing ever gets done. You have to contact 10 different people 10 times each just to get in the system to get your first paycheck.

      Good place to learn and work

      Pros

      On the learning end, the school has a wide array of technical areas for study, LOTS of research opportunities, and an experienced and knowledgeable faculty. On the working end, the university does what it can to accommodate your work schedule and school schedule.

      Cons

      For a technical school, Virginia Tech really falls short in some areas. There are very few online classes, the on-campus wireless service can be spotty, and a lot of the automatic grading programs for the computer classes have major bugs. On top of it all, the school requires that you own a laptop for use in class but then doesn't have enough electrical sockets to plug in if you need to; it's getting better, but it's still a problem.

      The administration has been exploiting faculty by not paying them at par with similar universities but wants faculty to bring in many many millions in research funds
