      I'm not digging ditches but would always rather be somewhere else

      Pros

      -good for extra money for a college student cause they work around your schedule -some of the people are really nice and that will be the only thing that keeps you going back

      Cons

      -if your actually sick you still get in trouble with out a doctors note -management wants you to pull of miracles with almost no people and most of them are not willing to help you out

      Good, but difficult to make it to Senior Management

      Pros

      Virginia Tech has great benefits and excellent educational opportunities. The climate is very conducive for self-directed development. There is tremendous pride in working for Virginia Tech and for the most part it is a great place to work.

      Cons

      It is often difficult to break out of the middle management mold into senior management. There tends to be a good 'ol boy network. The can be tension between the locals and the university "the establishment".

      Bittersweet experience

      Pros

      If you are a full time employee you have access to a wonderful benefits package. Cost of living is relatively low, lots of outdoor activities, small town atmosphere.

      Cons

      If you decide to relocate, you better like your job at Tech since it is one of the few employers in the area. If your spouse does not have something lined up in the area, it is very hard to get your foot in the door anywhere - regardless of qualifications. Isolated area, closest large airport is Charlotte, NC. Relo packages are skimpy, salaries (with the exception of football and bioinformatics) are low, constant rhetoric about dwindling resources
