Pros

Vitalant was a great place to work for myself. My life is cohesive and I can focus on just work. The schedule varies. The training was very thorough, benefits start day 1, which is amazing, and the pay is the highest for phlebotomy, at least in my region. The job gives you a great feeling, knowing you are helping to save lives, on the front line. The scrubs are paid for once a year (usually one pair of scrubs), and they vary so there is a lot of wiggle room in attire. SOME people are so caring and don't mind helping if you don't know something or need to improve.

Cons

Where to start....Having said all of the pros, I do have cons. The favoritism is unbelievable. It's not what you know, it's how much you cozy up to the management that matters here. Hard to advance if you dont. Everything you do wrong is voiced immediately, but never any accolades if you do good. Unless, again, you cozy up to the bosses. You can work so hard to improve, but it never feels good enough. The drama and cliques were like being in high school again. If you weren't part of it, you were given the bad jobs to do for the day, favorites would sit around laughing and having fun while non-clique people would do the work of double the people to make up for it. If you need time off for medical reasons, forget about it. I had to make all of my appointments telehealth because a Dr. note is NEVER accepted. I had covid and was forced to take days off. Losing my PTO, and was called to the boss' office. it was a write up for Covid, which was most likely contracted at work. Blood units are what matter, obviously, but something felt off about it, at times. The schedule is difficult, to say the least. One day you can work until 9pm, and be put on the 10 hour break rule, to flip around and be back in 10 hours. It would be difficult for a younger person with a family to work the schedule they have. It's all over the place. So, have a good parenting plan that is flexible. When doing a bus mobile, we had to use delivered toilets, with no running water, and depended solely on hand sanitizer. I had to sit on snow to use the restroom, at times. The 2 stars I took away were due to the toxic workplace, and lack of true care for employees.
