Pros

The pay and benefits are livable, benefits are extremely cheap, and company 401k match is 5%. The mission is morally rewarding, and most people that I work with are pretty great. The pay differentials make up for the long hours and difficult schedule. Company cars are always available. Company gives rewards and incentives (pizza parties, sweatshirts, coats, free stipend for new uniforms), and for MOST people advancing is easy.

Cons

The schedule can be extrememly difficult. If you have a family with young children, it can be hard. I am older and this is my first job since raising my children. My job is challenging, and I don't seem to be a candidate for advancement, no matter how well I do or how much effort I put forth. Sometimes, people will be allowed to spend the day talking in a group while others work, and those that work are never recognized. At least in my experience. Lunches and breaks are spotty, If you have time for lunch it is hours before your shift ends, usually at the beginning of the shift, so you go the remainder of your shift with no breaks, other than bathroom breaks, I have very different needs than the younger colleagues, and it is hard for those to be recognized. Sometimes I feel invisible. I have tried every tactic to improve, including picking up extra shifts, working on my off weekends, and verbally pointing out improvements. As of my 9th month there, I have been passed up for the slightest advancement. Others that started after me, have not. There is an SOP, however, most rules, you aren't aware of until they get broken. These are things the company could change to suit every category of employees.
