Pros

You get to travel to different states. That’s it.

Cons

You will be worked like a dog day and night as a Vivint technician. I have worked for the company for 7 years as a seasonal direct to home technician. I can no longer mentally or physically do it. They call this season “Summer.” It is a grueling 4 1/2 months of work. Here are the details. You will be relying on representatives to sell systems for you to install. They get on the door around 2pm and get off the doors around 10pm. So you can get a dispatch any where at all within those hours. This does not include scheduled out jobs for the morning. Your days can be packed, I have worked 13 hour days with this job. You will be expected and demanded to leave your house (apartment the company rents you) to go wait out in the reps chosen area for jobs because you MUST make it within 30 minutes. So if your home is an hour away expect to spend your day in your car in some random parking lot AND YOU WILL NOT BE PAID ON CALL. Even though you are demanded to go out you will not be paid for the time away from your home and family. There are absolutely no breaks. Your breaks are considered your drives between jobs. So enjoy attempting to get something to eat while your job is 25 minutes on the other side of town and you haven’t eaten since breakfast. The pay has gotten worse. Every year they cut tech pay. Cameras were 60 now they are 50, we used to get double gas while “gas prices we high” (which they never lowered the gas prices) but instead they pulled the rug under us and right before summer 2024 cut our travel pay in half 2 weeks before summer started. It ruined peoples lives, people quit over it. I am a female technician and I will tell you right now I am not safe during my night installs. I have been molested on my job and men will be creepy but you are NOT allowed any type of self defense weapon (such as spray) AT ALL. You will be immediately fired if you are suspected of having any protection at all. They put out this new rule a year ago that we have to be out of peoples homes by midnight but jobs can be dispatched all until 11:15 and you’re demanded to do it with the expectation of panel and sensors done before midnight. The absolute joke of it is, is that the back end closes at midnight. The company CONSTANTLY has issues with the work app and the backend crashing at night. Every night I am stuck in some random persons home because the app I am forced to work on rarely works past 10pm correctly. And if it’s the weekend you can guarantee to be stuck in someone’s home past midnight trying to pass signals testing. I have no life for 4 1/2 months. I lose weight, I lose hair, I no longer have happiness because I have no time to myself besides to shower and sleep, or eat and sleep because you can’t have both. Only psychos do this job. At one point I was paid enough to enjoy and sometimes love this job. But these last 3 years especially when it was acquired by NRG have been abysmal. They say this is just a seasonal job but they’ll make sure to take as much money as they can from you. You’ll get charged housing unless you do a certain amount of accounts and then you get some but not all back. Everyone gets charged a 75$ cleaning fee. If you get bad reviews (which they do reviews with your reps so your tied to your rep so if your rep is awful and the customer hates them you’ll also get a bad score even if thhe customer liked you) will ruin your quality score and it’s basically the company taking money from you. Your money is directly correlated to your quality score so if someone hates you and gives you a zero, goodbye to a lovely chunk of money. The company looks for ways to nickel and dime the technicians at any point they can. Finally during our time off (which we’ve earned, believe me) you’ll be dogged to go back to work. You’ll be almost demanded to go back to work around Christmas time. I think that’s why they try to lower our pays so we HAVE to work during our time off. The reps do not work as hard as the techs at all. I’ve seen them at the mall instead of on the doors while I’m away from my family waiting for them to sell me a job. I am absolutely disgusted.
