Pros

Global Company, Large Privately held company.

Cons

Global Company but locally focused. If you are looking for an international opportunity, then this is probably not the place for you. Very structured (German), but also very rigid and not very creative. This is a great place to work if you are an accountant - they have more accountants than I have seen at any company. With that said, the management watches EVERY penny to the point that they are cheap and unwilling to invest in their basic infrastructure to grow their business. All costs from copier paper to pens are closely watched. It's more about how much they can take out of costs, than what can be invested for a good return, or producing a good quality product for the customer. Being top quality is not a concern as long as the product(s) are good enough to meet expectations. The HR has a full time job on their hands trying find a way to engage and retain employees, while at the same time processing termination and resignation packages. It's a revolving door with weekly, if not daily departures.

Pros

Family-owned company, which allows for longer-term strategic planning. Complex, interesting, and custom-designed products leads to solid employee retention. International company allows for global relationship building and travel opportunities. Transparent and ethical approach with customers - strong focus on "Voith Values". Plenty of collaboration and openness to new technical ideas.

Cons

Several of the offices are in less-than-desireable locations, making it tougher to attract top-end talent. This, along with the complicated product, makes it difficult to "trim the fat" so to say. Can be slow to adopt change, conservative in risk assessments, and heavy on markups. Traditional approach to HR and employee handling...they feel fair, but not exactly bringing unique value to me as an employee. General feeling that Germans are given preferential treatment, particularly the farther up the organizational ladder you look.
