Pros

If it wasn't for the pay and benefits I would have quit a couples months in. Not much, if any, positive to speak of...

Cons

I can go on and on, but I'll refrain a little. To start, it's a UAW union environment that has wayyyy too much power and influence. They pretty much have a death grip on management, and get away with murder. Almost impossible to fire a bad egg, since the UAW and HR are always cutting deals. The company is rampant with nepotism on both Union and management sides which is a big problem. For the union, there's always petty rifts among the union employees where family members join sides and make everything worse. For management, certain people are treated much better and are protected from accountability because family is in upper management; no matter how much they screw up, it's OK. This also applies to HR having favorites. Speaking of HR, they are the ones who hire people which they really really suck at. They hire based on referrals first, so if you know someone, it's helps greatly. You wonder why nepotism is rampant. I've supervised at one point the mom, dad, two daughters, and a cousin at one point; just one example, it's very common. Your payed monthly on a salary. It's 40 hrs a week, and that's all they pay you unless there's scheduled OT. So if you work 50 hrs in a week by coming in early or staying after the shift to work on something, it's unpaid. BTW, they expect you to come in 30 mins early to prep for your shift and stay 30 mins afterward to close your shift unpaid or you will get in trouble. Basically, it's a cut throat culture, where people are always trying to bring you down, union and management, which gets old real quick. Especially when your a hard working individual, and you don't get recognized, and people who slack off aren't held accountable!!! Avoid this place like the plague, not worth it!

Pros

Volvo has great benefits and senior management values the input of lower level employees as far as job processes are concerned.

Cons

On some teams, supervisors and managers lack knowledge of even the most basic functions of their job and human resources and senior management take little or no action when they receive reports of employees being treated in a disrespectful manner.

Great place to start but don't expect to make a career.

Pros

Volvo hires great people, the management shows a respect for knowing that good employees are the heart and blood of the company. Benefits and pay are very good compared to other employers. Excellent earned time off policy.

Cons

Long term plans are almost non-existent. Direct managers change yearly but the message stays clear, nothing will improve. For all the talk of transparency its obvious if you stay longer then a few years there isn't any path for employees to grow without hopping around the business units or leaving the company.
