Pros
Engineers have a large impact on manufacturing processes and gain broad experience quickly.
Cons
Ops engineers are on-call for their processes 24-7 because there is little-to-no cross training. There are not many opportunities for advancement, so you may stay in the same role for much longer than is useful for technical and career development. There was also a toxic work culture within operations including lower level management, although I can't speak to that in more recent years.
