Pros

It provides opportunities for personal grow at least in technical skills and communication skills. It provides the tools, and the freedom that you need to make a decision on your own. You also get advice from management for the what you have done. At least, in my department with the current position, I have the opportunities to learn the latest technologies and use the best tools for my software development. The company also provides education reimbursement and that fit my goal for the next two years. Another good thing is that although the company no longer gives out stock options, it gives bonus every half year.

Cons

Workplace and parkings are horrible. It tries to save money and cut cost by reducing cubicle space. At the same time, there is not enough parking space for employees. Multiple levels of management matrix makes it difficult for employees to report. In some group, an employee may have to report to several managers at a time. Too many level management seems to create a lot of overhead, as the middle level in some situation directly manages a group of engineers, but is a manager on top of another manager of another group. The company has not had salary review and given raises to employees for years. Many employees believe that they are underpaid.

Pros

There are no good reasons to work for Western Digital other than it's a paycheck and better than being unemployed. Management has no respect for work/life balance. If you hate spending time with your family, then this is the perfect company for you. They expect all employees to give work precedence over your personal life and family.

Cons

"Sweatshop" type of work environment. Salaries have been frozen since 1999. Salary increases only can only come with promotions. There is no cost of living adjustment. Pay is below industry standard, but in recent years they tell us they "make it up with bonuses" which are completely up to the manager's discretion and can be withdrawn at any time.
