Ok, better than nothing

Pros

Most of peer level colleagues are very nice and helpful. Some of the leaders are very supportive depending on departments. Break room supplies quality tea and coffee. Benefit, HSA and 401K are not bad. No serious parking problem comparing the past.

Cons

Recently, the workplace is getting more politics. Some of department leaders never understand what their direct report actual work and schedule. Salary is margin low comparing with market, in general. The upper management is encouraging transparency and communication, however, the Sr. Director/Director levels are limited to follow / maybe have difficulty to follow / not willing to follow. Product programs is driven by cost most of the time instead of science/technology driven.

HGST is an OK place to work

Pros

Interesting technical problems. Good work is acknowledged for the most part. CrossFit program builds up a nice community. Recent focus on new products has resulted in good revenue sources.

Cons

New products are started and stopped all the time seemingly randomly. All the old timers from IBM have a good-old-boys club which can be very difficult to penetrate. Ever-looming merger with Western Digital keeps uncertainty as a way of life. HSA plan instead of traditional insurance. Process for determining bonus is very opaque at every level.

Pros

- Excellent brand (market leader in storage) - Strong leadership (new SVP brought in with proven track record in delivering software for cutting edge consumer products) - Current leadership values open communication and transparency, people are free to question vision, direction and strategy - Great people - An opportunity for strong performers to make a big impact (are you currently a little fish in a big pond?) - Flexible working environment - Competitive compensation

Cons

Company is going through a fair amount of change – most people, in general, don’t like change
