Pros

After the acquisition of HGST, WD is one of the duopoly companies in magnetic storage business (the other is Seagate). Therefore if you have a stable position in the company that means job security. The jobs are also hard to outsource. In hardware business, I would say it is pretty good in terms of base salary and profit sharing.

Cons

Company is very tight on everything else such as Perks, insurance and working environment. That is the in culture of WD since that is how it is survived in the price-sensitive cusumer storage market (PC and external storage) with low profit margin. Also the company has a tradition that

Pros

Reasonable compensation & benefits in terms of basic pay, pay rise and bonuses. The working environment is mostly open and flexible.

Cons

Middle management level lack of proper management skills. There're serious gap between the high level to the engineer level due to the insufficient communication and clear strategy by the middle management. Management approach varies significantly across different departments. Very poor English language level even at the engineer level and above.

Pros

Excellent work-life balance in terms of flexible time in the office and working from home, although much of that was due to my manager, but it was generally much more true than at most companies. Great deal of work independence with minimal micro-management. Many/most employees had offices. Base salary and raises weren't good, but bonuses were excellent (close to 30% with a good performance review in a good corporate year). Quarterly town hall meetings where the CEO was candid and answered any questions asked. No brainwashed employee attitudes; I always felt free to criticize the company or leaders at any time.

Cons

During bad years, there were layoffs, no raises, and no bonuses. Even during good years, raises were hard to get. Not a good place for climbing the corporate last because people tend to stay a long time. Sometimes there is a depressing feeling about the future fate of the HDD industry, but that's easily disproved by anyone who truly understands the stoge market. Cafeteria is not fancy, but is adequate.
