Pros

- Decent work life balance - Usually relatively relaxed

Cons

- Little flexibility with WFH, managers do not encourage WFH even if everything could be done remotely - No work culture at all, zero team cohesion, people just do their own thing. WD does not provide company events for bonding or anything of the sort - Very few young employees, those who do join young leave after a year or two because WD has zero communication on the promotional structure, has poor compensation when compared to other bay area tech companies, and again, has no work culture - Extremely cheap company, cannot expense anything (even something as small and cheap as a team lunch???) - Absolutely horrendous upper management with no clear direction

Pros

- Good people and community - People closer to the factory and Operations are Hard workers - Produces the best HDD's in the at least in one of their sites. - Good environment to grow and learn

Cons

- Minimal effort for employee retention - IT is failing with oversea strategy - IT is so disconnected from the business - Buying San Disk was a stupid idea dragging company profit down - Believes they can make quality solutions with teams made up primarily of contractors. Resulting in a training ground for other companies to pull talent. May as well be called University of Western Digital. They just have the model wrong and pay you a non-competitive offer to attend. - Unfortunately, very biased managememt and nepotism at large. Unless you are doing some serious brown nosing your work efforts will go unnoticed. - Management is full of old people ready to retire and not making any effort to improve the business or prepare the next generation of management. - Attrition is bad in all parts of the business. - I've never seen so many people in IT with Technologist titles that can barely tie their shoes. Either really bad managers hiring low talent, or managers protecting friends/nepotism. The skill level is pretty low. - The same Job Title, Location, and Business function has different compensation ranges, because they have not internally adjusted their compensation plans to allign across the business. For example, switching to another site can be an instant promotion. - Need to invest in their sites and bring them up to standard. Especially those over 50 years old.

Pros

The majority of people are fantastic. The client groups I supported were the main reason for staying there so long.

Cons

Low base salary, ESPP discount way below the corporate standard, no new hire stock grants for non tech roles. The org I was a part of was constantly reorganizing in an attempt to find the best structure to most effectively support hiring efforts but never reached that point.
