Pros

I was a big fan of the product before working here, which tarnished that for me.

Cons

Really difficult to work here because the company direction changes so frequently. Whether it's investing in sports teams collabs, developing alternative apparel, selling devices to corporate businesses, selling to the public sector - company priorities (and headcount) change with the wind. A quick scroll thru the company's Linkedin over the past 12 months shows this. There was also no upward mobility or career path ever discussed.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your experience at WHOOP. Adaptability is crucial in today's dynamic business environment, and a company at our stage needs to remain nimble. Anytime we pivot or implement change, it is done thoughtfully and within a strategic change management framework. That said, we value your input as we constantly strive to create a better work environment for our employees. Regarding the lack of upward mobility and career path discussions, we apologize if this was not adequately communicated during your time with us. Every department now has a career ladder framework with roles and responsibilities for each level and clear metrics that articulate success at each level. We encourage you to contact us at people@whoop.com if you have specific suggestions or would like to discuss your concerns further. Pros

-I've worked with some truly amazing, talented, hardworking people with great personalities -Exciting features and somewhat up-and-up product that is somewhat well known -Beautiful Boston office -Unlimited PTO -$500/yr to spend on fitness stuff -Decent health insurance -401K (but no matching) -Somewhat flexible work schedules, hybrid with some days required in office -Good pay While WHOOP has a lot of problems, it doesn't really face the toxic positivity and facade that can make work so draining. It's very known and discussed (in a casual "what can you do about it" way, not a whispers and gossip way) that projects often have tight deadlines, can be paused randomly, last minute feedback, or "Will decisions" (i.e. Will doesn't like it so no matter what we have to change it). There's a sort of acceptance and camaraderie around it that makes it more endurable. As for the team, I wouldn't say we love the users (though we do think of them), it's more that we loved challenging ourselves and creating a great product to further our brand. The culture here is very high performing, strive for excellence 110%, "move at an uncomfortably fast pace" which is reflected in the problems I mentioned above. The team members tend to have a similar mindset and we were mostly all athletic, so definitely a culture here. I really did love the people there though and miss working with them. I'd say WHOOP is the bottom end of good tech companies to work for. If you came from a smaller, not as great company, this place will be amazing. If you came from bigger companies, you might not like it as much. I don't regret my time here as it was a learning experience!

Cons

Overall, the job can be stressful, frustrating, and overwhelming, with many PMs and other teams working late to finish last minute projects with tight turnarounds just because Will wanted it. Also kinda has poor DEI, it's not necessarily fratty but def not inclusive or diverse. Upper management: A lot of the previous reviews ring true (see Pm review from Jul 19, 2023) that upper management has a huge problem and product/design is overworked due to last minute changes. When it comes down to it, upper management has the last word no matter whether or not it's actually a good decision (see "Will Decisions" above). They've gotten a lot better I think between 2020-2022, however still face a top-down problem with management and project planning. Our ideas and feedback don't really get taken seriously, we're here to execute. It can definitely feel like your voice isn't heard. I wouldn't say upper management doesn't care about us and only cares about profit, but there is definitely an emphasis on excelling and creating great work so I guess they really prioritize productivity > employee happiness. That's not to say it's a sweatshop, but it's just something to note within the company culture. Lack of planning and processes: In general there is a problem with lack of research where we are constantly pushing out new features (see work culture above), but not with substantial evidence that it will succeed more so Will/upper management want it done. The whole thing can be very messy and inefficient. Sometimes projects are randomly paused or scrapped due to lack of planning. If you came from a big company with established processes, you might not like it here as it is still experiencing some of startup issues like these.
