Pros

Fantastic environment. Everyone is really awesome and positive. The culture is relaxed and fun. You get to work on a ton of different projects and will always have a chance to work on something new. The benefits are among the best I have seen as well. The pay is excellent as long as you know what you are worth and are willing to push for more.

Cons

The path up is a bit disjointed. The day to day experience is a bit hectic and disorganized. There is little to no pushback against unreasonable deadlines and expectations by clients. This results in excessive late nights for employees with little to no say and lost money from client when a project misses targets. Unfortunately this has caused VML to bleed a lot of money, especially when dealing with unreasonable customers.

Pros

VML is a great place to work for many of the reasons you want to work any place: 1. Great benefits, salary and perks 2. Super flexible with your time, daily hours, etc 3. You generally get a broad range of experience 4. Lots of ways to learn and broaden your exposure to technologies you don't work with on a daily basis 5. Lots of internal knowledge sharing on best practices, lessons learned, etc

Cons

VML handles the crazy fluctuations of client interactions pretty well, but the finicky nature of clients still seeps into your daily work. There are times of real steadiness in weekly hours, and then wild fluctuations where you'll suddenly have nothing to do or way too much to do. This hits contractors especially hard--they're the first ones sent home when work dries up or the client cancels a project last minute. VML (through no fault of its own) is beholden to several parent/holding companies for it's financials. So, little things like converting contractors to full-time can be an incredibly arcane and long process. It can take up to 6-8 months AFTER they decide to put your name in for conversion. Even then, it pretty much takes someone with connections to push your paperwork through and get your name on the top of the list.
