Pros

It's a great friendly place to work and the benefits, such as the partner discount, are very useful and a great plus to working there. I worked on the meat and fish counter and was able to learn a great deal about all the different cuts of meat as well as many knife skills – filleting and skinning a mackerel became almost second nature! The customers were also, in the main, very friendly and patient if we were understaffed. The store manager knew every partner by name and was happy to have a chat if there was a problem.

Cons

There were quite a few times when I felt that we were understaffed and it put pressure on the rest of the staff to be able to retain the same level of customer service as normal. My training was also a little lacking in that I was left to work out where many places were by myself as well as not being given detailed instructions on what cleaning to do.

Pros

There are so many Pro's, I LOVED working at Waitrose, I was made a Wine specialist at 23 and I ran my own wine department for 6 happy years. I felt that it has a family atmosphere where by everyone pulls together and everyone is in it together, also I feel that everyone really cares about you as a person and not a number. Waitrose gave me so much and I'll always be grateful. I've met so many amazing people.....The only reason I made a decision to leave was because I have a massive drive for ambition and I wanted to progress in the wine industry, and Waitrose unfortunately don't offer any higher courses past wine specialist.

Cons

The cons are really only, stress and very fast paced, not fantastic pay but you do get yearly bonus
