Pros

Offers some benefits like pension, 401k & health insurance. As far as health insurance goes, Raleigh is better than county. It’s cheaper, has lower deductible and better coverage.

Cons

Be happy with you starting salary. Raises rarely surpass cost of living/inflation. If cost of living goes up 3%, your raise will probably be 2.5%. Also expect to be paid less than new hires. New hires come in with higher pay than older employees. They do not adjust employee pay to accommodate for inflation or cost of living. Only new hires get that consideration.

Pros

fairly good work/life balance Get every major holiday off

Cons

Once you start everyone who gets hired after you will make more than you, including if they have less experience or if they are a pay scale lower. They rarely do compression studies to correct this.
