Good company to start a career in retail and learn how to manage a business.

Pros

Big company with opportunities for continued career growth. Great emphasis on increasing accountability throughout the entire organization.

Cons

Company's focus shifted a few years ago from driving store growth to driving shareholder value. Shareholder value is important but at some point it has negatively impacted operations as expectations and standards are not matching with the reality of what can be accomplished with allotted resources. This often times creates an overly stressful environment which creates high employee turnover across the board.

Pros

Walgreens worked well with my school schedule. If I requested a day off in a timely fashion, I always got the day off.

Cons

The work was far too repetitive. After two years with the company, I was completely burned out. Raises were capped at 20 cents per year. Let that sink in. 20 cents per year. The pay here is terrible. Even shift leads are payed less than $12/hr. Want a position as an assistant GM or GM? Forget about it. This company does not promote from within.

Pros

Pay is fairly decent in comparison with other retail companies. Somewhat flexible schedule. Allows for full or part time work and the ability to work at multiple stores to earn extra income.

Cons

Walgreens has been making a ton of changes to the store and pharmacy that cost the company a ton of money. In contrast they continually cut hours for staff, cap pay, and/or refuse to give raises. Instead of investing in their employees we are treated as very expendable and instead they invest in machines and programs that are not effective. We are continually understaffed due to the cutting of our budget but are constantly told to "be more efficient and multi-task". What was once a good company who valued their employees and saw them as the source of the company's success has now turned into one that devalues their employees and sees them only as a source of revenue lost.
