Great Place to work

Pros

Wal-Mart is a great place to work and will provide you with opportunities for advancement if you are a hard-working and competent employee. The opportunities are there for those willing to reach for them.

Cons

One con I can think of for working at Wal-Mart is the negative connotation and pre-judment that outsiders have of you because you work for this company. However, those same people will shop at other retailers who also sell foreign goods for cheap prices. To you critics out there, I say, Wal-Mart is a company in which you can start at the bottom and work your way to the top, how is that for the American Dream?

Pros

Good pay comparing to similar companies in the industry. Good benefits. You will get a 10 discount on all items. Friendly environment.

Cons

Long hours and fast-paced environment to work in. Cashiers have to do some other duties that they are not supposed to do sometimes because of shortage of employees.

Pros

It was a good first job, they hire anyone. You really are able to expand to different departments and gain further experience.

Cons

They really use their employees. I was working several departments and was hardly ever acting as a cashier, but yet I received the lowest pay. I asked to be transferred permanently to a different department that I was already working on the regular but they refused. Instead they were giving the pay raises to people who had hardly spent any time there. In order to be treated right by the front end managers (CSM's) you had to be really cool with them on a personal basis. Wal-Mart not only sells cheap products, but they are cheap with their employees too. They'll work you 39.5 hours, just so that they don't have to give you full time benefits.
