Crappy call center job

Pros

Free snacks Some of the employees

Cons

Poor management from frontline up to senior. They all only care about their own advancement and will not fight for you when you need help, which is often. Awful attendance policy and scheduling system. You can be hit with a negative point for being late even when there are system issues of their fault, which is often. You can get refused parts of your vacation days off which is totally unbelievable, forcing you to fight to correct it, find someone to cover your shift, or call in and get dinged negative attendance point. Lack of promotion opportunity - as they play favorites and respond positively to brown nosers. Totally brutal metrics where they expect you to do more and more yet pay no more money. Management that tattle tales to other managers when issues are brought up by reps to management. Poor website, poor freight network, poor support from other departments making the job that much harder and stressful.

Pros

Experience and it looks decent on a resume for a better company. If you can see through the b.s. there are lessons you can learn.

Cons

Let's talk about the company core values. - We're never done. I've seen and know of people working in the office all day and into the night from home. I'm talking 1:00 in the morning, getting some sleep then starting the vicious cycle all over again. For what? An atta boy. You know it's not for the pay. -We use our brains. This was true a few years ago, however other ssc's have turned into switch board operators. The training is horrible to get you prepared for the high stress jobs in the next level and for a dollar more an hour. -Transparency is one sided. Manager's are secretive to all except their favorites. And believe me there are favorites. If you don't kiss up you are left in the dark without a voice. If you give your opinion and it's different than some managers watch your back. - We're go to people if you can find anyone to help. What does it say about a company when managers have high attrition rates and the good ones step down. -A zillion options narrowed down to 3. Don't say anything, keep your numbers up and head down.

Interesting problems.

Pros

Lots of interesting problems to solve due to scale. Lots of tech debt = lots of opportunities for process & code improvements.

Cons

Culture is different depending on department. Senior engineering talent leaves frequently. Lots of territorial battles.
