Great Skill Build; Low pay

Pros

I work in the chemistry stockroom as a lab technician and a teaching assistant. The jobs are very entry-level friendly, no experience required. When you need a day off, the chemistry stockroom I work in is super flexible, which is great for students during finals week! I love working with my manager in the stockroom. She has helped me see and develop my strengths, while also teaching and improving a lot of my chemistry skills. The work culture is very mental health friendly, and you're often working with a lot of other students in the same department. That has helped me network and get to know my classmates better.

Cons

The university does not offer any benefits besides low pay for their student employees. There's no tuition waiver, no paid time off, and no insurance benefits given to any part-time, student employees.

Pros

Most of the people were great to work with. The pay was awful but the fringe benefits were great. There was a 15% automatic contribution to retirement on top of your salary. You got 6 credit hours worth of classes you could take for free, you had health benefits. The gym was free. There were always free classes and seminars you could attend

Cons

Interoffice politics was terrible and you didn't necessarily even know if you're being targeted. LOTS of passive aggressive behaviour and backbiting among the staff in the science dept.

Pros

It is very convenient to work at Weber State while also attending school there. It makes it easy to take classes when needed and makes for a very flexible easy-going experience

Cons

As a part-time employee, the pay isn't the best but the flexibility makes up for it.
