Pros
I work in the chemistry stockroom as a lab technician and a teaching assistant. The jobs are very entry-level friendly, no experience required. When you need a day off, the chemistry stockroom I work in is super flexible, which is great for students during finals week! I love working with my manager in the stockroom. She has helped me see and develop my strengths, while also teaching and improving a lot of my chemistry skills. The work culture is very mental health friendly, and you're often working with a lot of other students in the same department. That has helped me network and get to know my classmates better.
Cons
The university does not offer any benefits besides low pay for their student employees. There's no tuition waiver, no paid time off, and no insurance benefits given to any part-time, student employees.
