      For [non-quant] portfolio managers - one of the best companies to work for; for IT professionals - not so much

      Pros

      Company is well run Great reputation in the industry and good financials Good benefits and good comp, especially great if you make it to be an associate or partner

      Cons

      On the IT side - long hours, often with weekend work Possibilities for promotion are limited - preference is for hiring from outside when positions open up The culture of "seek a wider audience" requires many meetings, limiting people's ability to do "real work"

      Pros

      The culture is the best of all investment management / financial industry. I encountered people that had worked at Wellington for their entire career, those that had come from Morgan Stanley, Fidelity, or JP Morgan, and were incredibly pleased with their switch. When you surround yourself with brilliant, humble intellectuals, the environment is absolutely amazing.

      Cons

      Office locations are limited to Boston and Radnor, at least in the United States, but that's not really a downside. I would say that the one troubling factor about Wellington's growth is the potential for it to interfere with the strong culture, but it seems that they are taking precautions to maintain the standard.
