Toxic, bullying, mental health at risk

Pros

401k profit sharing, access to investor research, if being honest in an odd way sense of superiority/elitist mentality (good when you tell friends where you work, horrible when you're at work)

Cons

Suffered panic attacks and had to start anti-depressant medication. Toxic work environment due to no growth, so leads non-partners to "crabs in a barrel" mentality. Sabotage, bullying, etc. NO ONE SAYS HI TO EACH OTHER IN HALLWAYS. This is not hyperbole. People look down when you walk past them, especially those that believe they are destined for partner. If you interview here ask to go to the bathroom and see if anyone says hi to you, or if any employees are having a friendly conversation. Ask your interviewers when is the last time they went to a friendly dinner with a co-worker, or ask an interviewer to name a teammates kid's name(s). MD's and honest partners will tell you off the record that if they were 20's-30's they would not stay given no career growth opportunities. If you are diverse you will be tokenized.

It's a shame

Pros

Great culture- everyone gets along well and we truly feel like friends. Good work life balance- an 8 hour workday is respected and taking truly unplugged time off is the norm. Good healthcare benefits

Cons

I unfortunately had to leave Wellington due to low pay. It is truly a shame because I loved working there, but with the current cost of living, I needed to make more to get ahead. I had been hanging on because of the three days in office flexibility, but once they took that away and required us to come in four days a week, I started making exit plans as most 4 day in office jobs in this industry pay at least 50-75% more than Wellington. When I joined Wellington several years ago, I was told that the job stability was excellent and there were never layoffs. Unfortunately, this proved to not be true as there were at least 3 separate instances of layoffs during my time at the firm. Finally, the firm talks about meritocracy and transparency, but neither of those things are actually true in practice. The people who are promoted are the ones who present the most obedient image, and performance is not taken into consideration. As far as transparency goes, every message from upper management in the past 2 or so years was complete gibberish.

Case study on how to ruin a great company

Pros

Collaborative. If you’re lucky, you might get to work with one of the few super smart investors and learn from them .

Cons

1. Lack of Meritocracy: Leadership decisions often seem disconnected from true performance and talent. Individuals who rise to the top are not necessarily those best suited to manage money, which is evident in the firm’s subpar performance. 2. Toxic Culture: Recent layoffs have worsened an already tense environment. The company now operates with a survivalist mentality, characterized by backstabbing and political maneuvering. This creates a culture of mistrust among employees. 3. Client Neglect: The focus has shifted from prioritizing client needs to self-preservation. This short-term, self-serving attitude undermines the firm’s long-term success and is reflected in its performance.
