Top-notch place to work, and great 401k plan
Pros
(First off, my last year at this employer was 2001, but the Glassdoor site did not enable me to select any year prior to 2018. So my review is based on the Wellington Management I knew, in 2001....) Overall, a very well-educated, well-travelled, sophisticated employee base Amazing private art collection, throughout all the office space, and which is collectively owned by all the firm's partners Wellington's pension plan is amazingly generous. At least, during the time I worked there, they would give you an extra 10% of your salary every year, along with a list of mutual funds into which you could invest that money. So that's exactly what I did.... selecting the mutual funds, and then letting the money sit. For my ten years with Wellington, each year, I received more money from them, to invest. And now, a full thirty years since I first worked at Wellington, that money has continued to grow, quite nicely, despite stock market ups and downs. So, I have Wellington to thank, for my nice little nest egg, for my retirement.
Cons
I did not really experience any downsides, though during the time I was working there (1991-2001) the amount of wealth and spending by the firm, was head-spinning. Many of the firm leaders, during that time, were what some might call 'blue bloods'.....people who came from generational wealth, and with family names that many in the Boston area would recognize. So I suppose some might find that type of environment off-putting and/or intimidating. That said, I'd imagine that much has changed at Wellington, since I left, and that many of the old-school blue blood types may have moved on, and that Wellington (like many firms, now) has made an attempt to be a bit more welcoming, down-to-earth, and inclusive. (Again, not that I ever felt unwelcome or included, but hopefully you can understand what I am getting at....)
