Pros

As government contractors go, Westat is above average. It's a large company, so it's difficult for me to comment across the board, but my general impression is that it has pretty good leadership, good people and little turnover, great opportunities, and generally good benefits.

Cons

I worked here a short time, but my feeling was that, while this company has all the right technology, it doesn't use it to its best advantage. Telecommuting options are limited in some parts of the company....not across the board, but depends on the manager. In general, I noticed that the longer a manager's been there, the more entrenched and traditional the processes. Change comes slow, and for some, it takes some kicking and screaming to get on board.

Pros

Lots of bright people with diverse backgrounds. Interesting projects in areas of health, education, and social policy. If those areas are interesting to you, there is the factor of feeling good about the work being done. Especially good for statisticians and people with statistical software knowledge.

Cons

Annual pay increases and bonuses are quite modest, although steady.
