      Ability to be near the cutting edge of research projects that are important to the country.

      Cons

      Company allows management to harass employees, even after the company has dealt with a number of lawsuits, without repercussions.

      Pros

      People stay forever and it is hard to get fired or laid off. People with families enjoy the flexibility.

      Cons

      People stay forever and it is hard to get fired or laid off. Too large a proportion of the staff are senior managers. Little opportunities for new/younger workers. There are no consequences for incompetent managers. Pay and benefits are not great.

      Pros

      Westat engages staff on interesting projects. The company favors managing via numerous meetings, and this leads to fairly effective cross-departmental coordination.

      Cons

      The overall approach to PM is not effective. PM is treated more as a secretarial position, with no room for growth. Dynamic analysis is frowned upon because management does not understand the importance of robust financial analysis in complex global PM. Other reviewers mentioned the numerous VPs, and this is very true. Political infighting is viral here, coupled with back-stabbing and flagrant lies to protect the images of senior managers. The environment is toxic and painful.
