Pros

The Whitney does a great job at picking candidates to work on the visitor services team if only they knew how to keep them.

Cons

No growth opportunities, very poor communication in regards to management and long hours sometimes 12 hour shifts, schedule changes sometimes as soon as the day before your shift. They keep a lot of the staff in a temporary position so if you have your hopes up to go full time, stop hoping it’s not going to happen, no benefits, no job security, you’re paid minimum wage, micromanaged and watched like a hawk. The list goes on and on. Disappointed overall with the negligence taking place.

Pros

Great coworkers, museum is a nice working environment, I generally agree with the Whitney's mission and values

Cons

The job can be physically strenuous (standing for many hours at a time), not a lot of overlap between front of house and back of house staff– there should be more opportunities for overlap (not just socially, but professionally). The museum should stand by the values it espouses and grant all employees minimum benefits and living wages (they are failing to do so now).

Pros

Art is great, some colleagues are great, location is lovely.

Cons

People are not valued or promoted. If you do a good job and aren't a squeaky wheel, you do not get recognized. The prevailing attitude is that if you leave they'll easily replace you.
