Pros

I was in editorial for one of the digital products. Mostly great coworkers in the NY office. Good benefits. Great work-life balance.

Cons

The company's transition into digital is poorly managed because they have a poor conception of what they should be focusing on. They force publishing industry best practices and aesthetics into the web space, and the whole product fall apart because of it. (Example: In creating website wireframes, rather than keeping the negative space that's so en vogue in web design right now, they INSIST on filling everything up as much as possible so that it looks like a mid-90s search engine. And then they're proud of the fact that they fit everything in, rather than using actual design principles to create a product the company can be proud of.) Also, no cultural training between British and US offices -- many misunderstandings arise from differing cultural expectations. Poor communication between offices in general. Management is secretive and partisan: keen to play favorites to their staff. I've seen more than one person get thrown to the wolves due to clashing personalities, which is extremely unprofessional.

Pros

Hard working people, really dedicated and passionate about their work. Dedicated to quality and serving the customer. Great benefits.

Cons

While colleagues were great, management was not. This is an example of a company that says they want to change but doesn't know how and doesn't have the leadership to do so. Employees are encouraged to experiment, but are not rewarded for doing so. And, decisions are not made here. Meetings upon meetings, to discuss meetings, to redo presentations with a different format. Transistion is handled poorly. Rumors fly about who's going to be let go next. It's filled with anxiety and stress.

Good benefits, bad leadership

Pros

The benefits are solid, which makes it difficult to leave. I get a lot of time off which I value, and don't have a hard time using it. Retirement + healthcare is adequate.

Cons

Leadership is terrible. They jump from one big idea to the next and leave the remains in shambles. Reorgs are constant. Long-term plans are made and abandoned months later in favor of short-term efforts to improve the quarterly earnings call. Messaging is completely tone-deaf and sunny while everyone hates working here. Every six months we do a survey on employee satisfaction, which is low, and the survey only upsets people more because leadership does not act (or acts directly counter to) the feedback that is given. They are pushing for increased RTO, despite everyone universally hating that and being very vocal about it, which suggests either total incompetence or they are trying to reduce headcount without actually doing a layoff. If you aren't in sales, no one cares what you are doing. Management is left totally impotent to address employee concerns. As a manager, I cannot believe anyone would accept what we offer as entry-level pay. It's laughably low, and they withheld raises this year. I am honestly shocked any time we are able to find someone willing to fill a vacancy on my team. That is, when we are even allowed to hire, because leadership constantly freezes hiring. I am actively looking to leave and I don't recommend that anyone try to take my role when I'm gone.
