Pros

My managers were some of the best people i've met and I never felt micromanaged. Colleagues are super friendly and down-to-earth. The office itself is pretty laid back on the whole.

Cons

Job security. I've seen at least one new reorganization each year I've been at the company. I haven't seen much investment in junior staff, which doesn't make much sense given that the company is trying to do more digitally. I don't think the company's plan has ever been made very clear to staff.

Pros

Wiley truly cared about work/life balance, and allowed reasonable telecommuting and time off as needed. Annual goals (to reach personal bonus payouts) were clear, concise, and achievable if you worked hard enough. Opportunities for development and growth were made available (tuition reimbursement for advanced degrees, conferences, etc), and it was simply a great place to work: co-workers were fantastic almost to a person across the global organization, and there were times set aside to socialize to reinforce the value of the workplace community.

Cons

Unfortunately, the publishing industry as a whole has been hit hard by a legacy business trying to adapt to a rapidly changing marketplace, and Wiley simply couldn't adapt quickly enough.

Pros

- Excellent Work/Life balance - Genuine desire for improvement - Really nice people - Hoboken is one of the nicer places to work in the sense that you are only 1 subway stop away from Manhattan, but with a much more relaxed environment than if you were actually in NYC.

Cons

Wiley is attempting to make some major changes, but is not allocating the resources to do so as sensibly as they could. They are also attempting to eliminate siloing, but are doing it by consolidating departments, but not teams. This means that the team for Project A might be composed similarly to the team for Project B, but within each team, each member might have an entirely different management chain to report to, with conflicting approached and priorities. This makes teamwork more difficult, since teams don't rise and fall together, so when things go wrong there is much finger-pointing.
