Once a good company, ruined by management
Pros
Depending on what city location, company environment varies greatly. Support staff in general is treated like crap. In NYC management was brought in specifically to cut positions in order to provide more income for partners. Some senior attornies actually left due to their change in company culture. People who deal with health issues are harrassed and pressured to leave. People who have worked at WH for years, who always received glowing reports and feedback are now finding themselves receiving bad reports and are being written up - not by the attorneys they actually support but by newer management. Overall people are unhappy and WH has gone from a great place to work to a place with low employee satisfaction, where people are constantly in fear of losing their jobs - especially older employees who feel they are being pressured out to make room for new hirees who are paid much less. ( It's no secret that WH outsorced an entire department to a city with a high poverty and crime rate, and during a time when they were doing quite well financially, so that they could pay much cheaper salaries, simply in order to increase partner pay. And at a time when support staff was told there was no money for bonuses, extra bonuses were being handed out to attorneys.) The one thing they seem willing to spend money on is management; it's sort of a running joke three amount of management brought in over the last few years. And to add insult to injury it's three members of the various management teams who behave the worst and treat those under them terribly who are rewarded. Obviously I can't name names but they were warned by several senior people in oth we departments, including a couple of partners, that the actions of one of the supervisors were putting the company at risk of legal repurcussion due to harrassment and bullying, as well as documented lies this person claimed against those she'd chosen to focus on (she had her 'pets' and then others she constantly humiliated and 'picked' on; she is directly respinsible for at least two people in her department having to leave work with diagnoses of ptsd, that's how harrassing the work environment was. But because she herself beinf reprimanded or let go would have reflected badly on the person who brought her into the company, the solution found was to promote her. She was rewarded for her behavior. And yes I realize this all sounds liked hyperbole but everything stated here was in fact confirmed by a senior management member in another department, even including the fact that support staff with chronic illness were purposefully being targetted in attempt to get them to either admit they were unable to do their jobs due to disabilty - so they could be fired - or to make them so miserable that they would just choose to leave the firm. The sad thing is that WH used to be a great place to work. That no longer is true.
Cons
Completely different treatment for support staff as opposed to attorneys, even so far as differences in things like allowed maternity leave (apparently support staff bodies are biologically different from those of attorneys, and thus have different needs when it comes to physical recovery or child bonding). Thete is definitely a class system now at WH which didn't used to exist and support staff - anyone not an attorney, is treated as second class. (To be fair this is not the attitude of all attorneys but it has become part of the culture.) Thete is also no room for growth unless you're someone in management's 'pet.' Opportunities are not based on merit.
