Pros

I like some of my coworkers and sometimes the customers are nice

Cons

The pay is a joke, I don't even make enough to afford the provided health insurance. The holiday bonus is a store gift card. It's insulting. My schedule is so inconsistent that I can never predict my hours and I never work the same hours each day. Once you use your sick hours, you don't get any until the next anniversary of your hiring date. This means that you have to go to work sick or you will get attendance points. They schedule cashiers so thin that if one person calls out, the entire day is horrible and stressful. The whole "employee owned" thing is just a way to keep us from joining a union. I have never had any voice or power in my contract. They only give you the minimum breaks legally required, I have to ask to use the bathroom like I'm in grade school. My multiple requests to change departments have been ignored. It feels like upper management is actively sabotaging us. Once top of everything, my gender identity is ignored by at least half of my superiors, my deadname is publicly displayed on the schedule, and I was asked to remove my pronoun pins when corporate visits.

Pros

Throwing freight can be fun if you're one that enjoys a good workout. They allow us to wear airpods (headphones) so long as it's only one ear and you can still hear customers/managers etc. That's pretty awesome since these jobs can be incredibly boring without any sort of stimulation from music or podcasts etc.

Cons

The pay is absolutely ridiculous! In comparison, I was at Walmart working as an Overnight Stocker just before getting the job at WinCo and Walmart was paying me almost $21 an hour. They were also paying me that as far back as 2020. Now we're towards the end of 2024 and WinCo only hired me on at $16.50 an hour! That's despite more than a decade experience in Grocery, and 20 years experience in customer service! I just can't fathom why WinCo would pay their employees so little when even Burger King told me they'd hire me at $17 an hour! Burger King for crying out loud! Not only that, this is a very tiring job to have! You're on your feet for your entire shift, you're always bending, squatting, on your knees, carrying weight all night long! There is no reason why WinCo shouldn't pay their employees more money! At very least overnight stockers should be at a minimum of $22 an hour right now! Why are there 18 year old zit faced kids making $17 an hour to stand around at Burger King consistently screwing off peoples orders and somehow WinCo thinks it's okay to pay me even less? I'm actually writing this review as I very seriously contemplate whether I should even go into work tonight or not. I'm sick of it! There's also no discounts that would at least balance out the fact that the wages are terrible! No discounts on groceries whatsoever! Both Walmart and Fred Meyers offers their employees discounts, and the pay is better at both of those locations as well! I'm sure you're thinking.. "Well why not just go get a job at Walmart or Fred Meyer then?" Probably because I have ADHD and I'm not a big fan of change! I get used to situations I'm in and even if I don't like them very much, I've always been extremely anxious when it comes to change! Because of that, I'll stagger on at WinCo for probably as long as possible before the tires finally burn completely off! Yes the ESOP program is cool, but most of us would much rather make more money per year than to wait 10 years to finally receive some sort of compensation! I've talked with other employees about how low the wages are and they're always like "YEAH BUT AT LEAST WE HAVE ESOP" Most of them don't realize they won't be working there long enough for any of that to matter!
