Not The Firm It Used To Be

Pros

Some employees are hardworking and a pleasure to work with

Cons

Management is so focused on making money that they don’t even see employees as people or care about how they are treated. There is a big focus on acquiring additional firms instead of supporting existing staff to drive up the number of employees. As a result, key staff in high ranking positions that have been with the firm for 10+ years are leaving in droves. Management keeps pushing the Great Place To Work survey without actually taking steps to make it a great place to work. Many people are overworked, underpaid, and have had promises made to them that are never acted on (i.e., raises, bonuses, benefits). Job responsibilities are also in frequent flux, with little to no notice to employees or additional compensation for exceeding agreed scope. You could be hired to do one thing and required to do something completely different from what you agreed to.

Pros

Remote work option, pretty good benefits

Cons

This company used to be employee-focused, a team environment, and held itself to a higher standard. They always used to say, "We're not the cheapest, but we deliver a high quality product and people recognize that". This is no more. They are totally focused on profits and buying up other innovative companies so they don't have to innovate themselves. They put no real effort into R&D, which is crazy in a tech-centered industry. They're still hanging on to the fact that they're a 100+ year old company and living off clients they've had for many years, but the work is not what it used to be. Projects are consistently late, over budget, and all management can do is blame the technicians, when in reality it's poor management that is the issue. That company is headed downhill.
