Pros

Flexible and family friendly. Great location. The cafeteria is out of this world. The gym is brand new. A great place to work at if you are an economist or social scientist. Otherwise, stay clear.

Cons

If you are in IT, please do not join the bank. The pay is subpar, job security is nil. If you stay, prepare for a trip to the 1990s and lose all relevancy in the job market. You will be stuck at the World Bank, because nobody else will hire you with your irrelevant skills. An extremely political environment, very resistant to change. A lot of arrogance. Prepare to be shouted at and ostracized, if you dare to speak up.

Pros

The Bank pays above market and you may get to travel to interesting places. The people you meet are interesting and super elite. It's common to meet people with multiple PhDs as well as other advanced degrees. You get a great deal of vacation time and may get to take every other Friday off. There are a lot of interesting speakers who come to the Bank and it's great when you can see them.

Cons

The Bank has to be judged department by department, and if you end up in a bad one you will likely be highly under utilized and bored out of your mind. Nepotism runs deep and its hard to keep smiling when you know the guy across the hall is making $250k a year and essentially not doing his job HELPING THE WORLD'S POOR

Pros

Only pro I can say is the people are nice and you get good healthcare benefits.

Cons

- Everyone is overworked and stressed. Some are just better at hiding it than others. In general I would say most people would leave if they had other opportunities but many are tied to this place because of their visa and The World Bank exploits this - Poor work-life balance. You'll find yourself working after hours frequently or putting in a full 8 hour work day with no breaks - The President is out of touch with reality. They are against working at home. - Salaries are low and if you choose to stay here you won't see much of an increase in pay There are other reasons but basically save yourself a life of pain and go somewhere else.
