Pros

Great mission, great work in the field. Working there won't be just a "job," it will be a calling. Most people who work there are motivated by that fact.

Cons

The organization's size is both good and bad...good because it's large enough to do the work it's committed to do; bad because an overwhelming number of stakeholders can make it difficult to get things done.

Pros

Most people here have a mission to serve children around the world. You can leave at the end of long day and feel you made a difference, not just an extra buck for a stockholder (which is fine if that's your thing). New COO (CEO is Rich Stearns) is passionate about the cause and is a good communicator to staff; he's very transparent when discussing strategy, financials, etc. In general, you sense a genuine care from employee to employee. Don't mistake it, though, for a church or highly social startup...no it's corporate like any profit company in that there deadlines and demand for good performance. Many of the executives bring this culture from for-profit places, such a Microsoft. P&G, Yahoo, Starbucks Corporate, etc.

Cons

While some leaders do preach good life/work balance, I've seen numerous burnouts over my years. This has more to do with employees taking on too much because they are passionate about the work, and then they've taken on too much which becomes the norm. I do understand leadership is going to start addressing this, especially with a new, high-likable SVP of Human Resources.

Thank you for taking time to let us know your thoughts. We agree that it is a blessing to know your work is making a difference in God’s kingdom! We do, though, understand that staff can run the risk of workplace burnout when they don’t have good work-life balance. World Vision cares about our employees and actively look for opportunities to encourage a healthy balance. For example, in response to employee’s desire for improved health, we recently revamped our employee gym area, which is open to employees during the work week. Also, you are accurate in saying that the senior leadership team is driving prioritization and simplified work to give employees focus. Thank you again for your heart for serving children!
