Where do I begin? The client's budget was cut and I was transferred to a different team. Funding is a big issue--clients demand discounts for renewing contracts, the same or more work needs to be done for less revenue. Work overload is the standard. The team freaks over minor, totally fixable things, but then sends out the most poor quality work product. Working at home has become a nightmare. I am always expected to work. My PMs "ping" me via company IM throughout the day and wonder why I can't seem to get my deliverable out on time. It's because the people who task me and my team have no idea about the type of work I do and what it takes to create quality training. PMs don't do actual project planning. Most do not hold a PMP nor have heard of the PMBOK. They have no idea how to scope a project or estimate an activity which means the work has arbitrary deadlines. They say they forecast for vacations, but in actually, they just load up the team with the extra work. We are also warned that the work needs to be done in X hours and there is not more budget for more hours. That's a no-win situation. My whole team is miserable and stressed. There is no professional development. It's all about billable hours. You have to be billable to a project ALL the time. And, all the "good" work is outsourced. We send our media and editorial work to India or the Philippines. It takes as many hours to manage the vendors and document the work to be done as to do it ourselves. And the quality of the vendors work is inconsistent. It adds time to the project which means we have to make it up through extra hours.
