Pros

You can coast along by being politically smart. Bonus is decent. RSU's are ok. Some people are truly nice and humble.

Cons

Political to the brim. If you're an A player who wants to make an impact, forget it. You'll spend more time kissing up to old colleagues who just wanna maintain status quo to get close to retirement. CIO is clueless. Internal technology stack desperately needs an overhaul. If you love committees, and bureaucracy. You'll fit right in.

HQ Legal has a nepotism problem

Pros

If you can find a group to commiserate with, surviving HQ can be bearable as you will can joke what day they will finally fire you. Work-life balance is decent if you suck up enough to get it.

Cons

Benefits are lacking. Compensation is decent, but if you are truly skilled and knowledgeable, you can probably get paid more somewhere else. Raises are nothing and only match inflation. HQ Legal as a nepotism problem. You will never get noticed or promoted unless you play the suck-up game well. GC promoted someone WITH NO ETHICS OR COMPLIANCE EXPERIENCE into the Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer role... because she had a friendship with him.

Run the other way

Pros

Co-workers are loyal to each other

Cons

Management from the top down is terrible. The have no concept of work life balance, it's all about the bottom line. You know, the one that keeps them in fancy company paid vehicles, huge raises, unlimited $$ for expensive restaurants and hotels. All the employees ever hear is the dire warnings about how poorly the company is doing, benefit cutbacks, lay offs, etc., but the company perks continue to increase for the management team. The HR team comes out every year and tows the company line right before they tell you how much smaller your paycheck is going to be, how your benefits are going to be reduced and cost you more.
