Pros

Benefits & Job security. Plus it is a very slow paced environment--government work. IF you enjoy getting paid for 40, but working about 20, then it's the place for you.

Cons

Time getting in and out of the facility--it's largely due to the security presence WHICH is a GOOD THING, but sometimes it can be a bit time consuming and seemingly tedious. "Some" groups at Y-12 make decisions without truly understanding and using all the facts. Unfortunately, one particular group has nothing to do with day to day operations and production requirements for the facility--they lie in wait lurking for a "problem" to solve. Instead of taking a more humanitarian approach, they choose to pretend to flex their muscles trying express just how much power and control they have. It would be more funny, but the sad truth of the matter is that they just don't have a lot to do so they make the most noise they can when they can.

Pros

Pay is alright for the area. PTO could be worse. Time balancing is nice for salaried exempt. 4 10s is nice.

Cons

Stereotypical government. Terrible culture and everyone knows it. Mostly run by career government contractors just there to punch the clock on cost-plus contracts. Very slow and with little interest in getting work done. Policies and processes are unintuitive and/or not clearly documented. The policies around remote work aren't very logical, even for roles that could easily be 100% remote. They clearly dislike the idea of remote work, but have no choice due to facility/parking limitations. They also have a two-hour remote limit for when you have to be able to report to the medical center for drug tests. You probably won't hear about that until you've already joined, but it isn't as simple as pulling up a map and seeing that you're safely within two hours; instead, they want you to actively be taking the test within two hours, or you fail. This seems very unreasonable since it doesn't account for delays outside your control. The relocation program has a 1-year payback period. You should read that as the company thinks you'll probably want to leave soon after you join, and wants to impose a large penalty to keep you there.
