      Library positions offer well-paid, flexible jobs for students, with some opportunity for promotion

      Pros

      At Sterling Memorial Library, student jobs have very flexible hours Supervisor is understanding and inspires students to get involved in the mission of the library Some opportunity for promotion (and accompanying raises) to semi-managerial role

      Cons

      Main tasks in Access Services, like shelving and accuracy checks, can be monotonous over long periods of time Promotion decisions are somewhat arbitrary and dependent on student attrition rates

      Pros

      Great benefits. Hard to get fired for any reason. Taking care of the disadvantaged of New Haven. Faculty are very talented and world changing discoveries happen frequently.

      Cons

      Hard to get fired for any reason - dead wood accumulates. People not leaving and little upward mobility at the higher levels creats significant logjams for entry level managers. People get frustrated and buy into the no change attitude - sucking up the benfits till they retire. Union pay scale so high that there are secretaries working for 10 years that can make $5,000 more than front line managers and they are eligible for overtime pay (which they can get if they are aggressive regardless of the need).

      Pros

      It is the well know university. Easy to get the fund from the government or the companies. Good research resources to prompt the research work

      Cons

      Slightly dangerous area to work until late night. No space to park in the day time or very expensive parking fee even if have to park in the far parking lot.
