      Overall, a great place to do a PhD

      Pros

      Very collegial (as one might expect), good work/life balance as far as grad schools go, and very good support from administration ranging from significantly above average stipends to career services and student life activities.

      Cons

      As with most prominent academic institutions, many big egos and dead weight, sometimes mediocre teaching at the grad level. Also, very little industry collaboration vs other schools (i.e. Stanford, MIT, etc).

      Pros

      Yale is a great university with some of the most brilliant minds in the world. Working there is a chance to learn through osmosis.

      Cons

      New Haven is not exactly the safest city on the planet --then again, it isn't the most dangerous either. Just be careful

      Pros

      Yale provides a wonderful set of resources to its graduate students : fantastic libraries, great benefits, excellent career counseling and a great brand name after graduation.

      Cons

      Graduate school ultimately for me became a very solitary research enterprise with minimal meaningful impact. Graduate school told me all the reasons I don't want to be in academia. Living in New Haven isn't for everyone. I liked it, but come with the right mindset.
