      Good Place for Grad School

      Pros

      Excellent faculty and facilities and a great reputation are certainly pros. The atmosphere is great and the other students are smart and friendly. The stipend is a bit bigger than many other places (though that doesn't take cost of living into account)

      Cons

      Lots of paperwork and bureaucratic snafus. Some departments have problems with in-fighting. Your experience may vary widely depending on your advisor, department, and program. Jr faculty seem especially stressed.

      Pros

      prior to 7/1/2010 Good benefits, and employee policies

      Cons

      Recent move toward a "corporate" model of benefits, which doesn't work well here. Changes are too fast and too severe. Leave policies no longer make Yale and attractive option for staff compared to similar schools. New Haven can't attract without the broad generous policies.

      Pros

      Interactive environment. Great place to work for stimulating conversations. A lot of bright scientists. State of the art research facilities.

      Cons

      The city is not have much for young professionals. The weather of the northeast is not desirable. A lot of crime.
