Pros

Top-notch research facilities in the sciences, leading faculty in their respective sub-fields, lots of opportunities for networking and expanding career options whether in one's PhD program or outside (but one needs to be proactive for the latter), student stipend is more than adequate for living in New Haven as a young adult.

Cons

Work-life boundaries may be blurred (but that is the nature of graduate study),

Pros

Good benefits for faculty, scientists with solid expertise. Not far from New York, or Boston if you need to get away.

Cons

More arrogance than at other places, New Haven is a terrible city with a bad school system. Comparing to other places, salaries are rather low. Opportunities to collaborate - low.
