Pros
Many educational opportunities at the university. The benefits and job security can be very good if you are hired permanently
Cons
I'm sure every department at Yale is different, but at the Yale Collection of Musical Instruments, they use temporary workers for years on end and rely on student workers, who they don't have to pay benefits to. Upper admin there constantly misleads their employees, but also seem to have a habit of starting (and spending on) projects with no plans on actually finishing them, which means everyone's career ends up stagnating
