      Friendly atmosphere, growing company, needs more middle management

      Pros

      Casual atmosphere, friendly people, family-oriented. One of few decent firms to work for in Santa Barbara. Profit sharing into your 401K come holiday season. Lots of company organized events.

      Cons

      Limited room for growth within the company even though it is large and expanding rapidly. Pay is weak compared to the industry. It seems that all real responsibility and decision-making power is consolidated to just a few people who don't have the time to make all the decisions required by management at a company of this size; therefore, many of the less important decisions aren't made in a timely matter, nor is the amount of attention applied to them as necessary.

      Pros

      Management and staff are friendly, and are generally available to speak with you about anything. There are plenty of ongoing training opportunities, and a few opportunities to seek training in other software tools like SQL and Crystal Reports. The health insurance is nice, and fully paid for.

      Cons

      The company has little room for advancement, and places various roadblocks in the way of what little opportunity for advancement exists so that they can 'ensure the loyalty' of the people they promote. Advancement is based more how well connected you are with upper management and other managers, and has little to do with skill (though that helps). Quality assurance and control, software development practices, and hosting services are all terrible and make life difficult for the rest of the company. While the company is growing by leaps and bounds, managers still treat it like a small company.
