I have worked at Zeiss in Germany. Zeiss has a fascinating set-up for a communications/brand/marketing specialist, because 7 portfolio companies comprise one brand. The marketing and communications community within Zeiss is filled with experienced, but very open people. They are tirelessly trying to stay on top of current digital changes. The salary was outrageously fantastic, very strong union and a committment by management to cut overhours, a ot of holidays.

Cons

Zeiss is not located at very exciting locations.

Pros

You'll work with some of the smartest people in microscopy, and with some of the most innovative optical products. There is hope that things will get better. The family feeling is still present, but (see cons sectioni) waning.

Cons

You'll also work with some of the biggest and most aggressive bullies. This comes from the top-down and is pervasive in the sales side. Lying, deceit and backstabbing are the norm. Massive exodus coming - some by force, many by choice. Commission plan has been steadily deteriorating. Sell more to make less - double your territory's revenue to make half of what you made last year.

Technological innovation is second to none, good company culture. Great products and many different divisions. Almost any type of career can be pursued at Carl Zeiss, ranging from accounting all the way applications specialists in various fields.

Cons

Opportunities for growth need to pursued in Germany. If you don't mind moving, then this is not a problem.
