Awful Working Environment and management.

Pros

Flex time and overtime is available, and the build has a nice atrium. Other than that I don't really have many positive things to say about this company.

Cons

Mandatory overtime, high turnover rate, no holidays, little to no opportunity for a workplace advancement, forced valet parking if you don't manage to get to work early enough (they have banged up cars), no smoking anywhere on the property if you smoke, benefits are not good, poor management, and sick days are use them or lose them.

Pros

Decent people, but they've all left. Health insurance is affordable because they're a mega-corp. 401k TAKES 6 YEARS TO VEST. If you're a software person, you won't make it 6 years.

Cons

I want to make this specific to software engineers. If you're a software guy looking for an opportunity and you've been in the industry for over 5 years, this is a very bad place for you to wind up. There are much better opportunities out there and you really are scraping the bottom of the barrel if you are seriously considering coming to ZOLL to "further" your career. Where can I start with how bad this place is? You know tools like Docker, how to use AWS and all it's functionality? Great, you'd better find out how it's used in this place that's held together with shoe strings and duct tape. You're a C#/Javascript/T-SQL whiz? Great, you'll find tons of legacy products and code base so that you can work with "offshore developers" messing up the rest of the code base with bad practices. As a developer, you will parachute into a dumpster fire that previous developers have just abandoned ship. Good luck figuring out the mess that's been left. There's a culture of blame and politics. Managers will blame their team instead of taking responsibility for managing their product. You will join and be expected to perform with an immediate impact. That's because everyone is underpaid and not willing to help you get accustomed to the new atmosphere. You will need to watch your back as you are likely now paid more than existing people there. ZOLL figured out they can't keep underpaying people and increased salaries a bit. But not for current employees. They like keeping them cheap. Management is completely unaccountable and it shows. You will be an "individual contributor" and they are "management and HR". Your contribution will never be enough and the quarterly meetings with the business will show your team hasn't produced anything. So, at the end of the year, there's no real justification to give any sort of raise. Prepare for years of 2.5% raises should the company be profitable. And you've worked very hard and the team is dependent on your work. Prepare for managers that blame their developers rather than lead and show how to get work done. People who are only concerned with themselves within the context of the larger organization. Prepare for managers that don't have any social skills. I was told in a one-on-one, after performing well for 1.5 years and delivering all my work, that caring for a family member was becoming "a distraction". That family member then died. Another more senior manager made fun of me "for not accomplishing anything in my career". These people are rotten to the core and I wish sickness on them and their families.

Pros

Sadly there is nothing to positive to share…

Cons

Unfortunately, management has poorly managed the P&L for this department, and there is a lack of accountability. The front-line staff is left with the burden. We lost our entire part-time workforce nearly 1/2 a year ago, and there has been no help or re-leveling re: comp or titles; only words of upcoming changes but no action. So many FTEs are leaving, management personalities are very split, and I fear that this division will be repurposed/restructured soon.
