Pros
- Depending on the team, there's a scrappy early stage startup culture that can be quite a lot of fun. Everyone is dedicated to solving problems and figuring out how to do more with less. - There are some brilliant scientists and engineers working together on super difficult problems.
Cons
- The company is physically separated into multiple suites. This is most definitely reflected in the work culture where different teams have no idea what the others are working on. Collaborating or even communicating across teams is difficult at best, and agonizing at worst. - The CSO is out of control. He drops by meetings unannounced frequently (thanks open-concept offices) and completely derails the conversation. - Do more with less is fine in an academic lab, but working with old, broken equipment just slows down progress.
