Pros

Senior Leadership of the business unit have excellent leadership skills. Great place to hone leadership skills by emulating them. Good place to learn about the industry Good work life balance.

Cons

Highly political. People who have never worked elsewhere have a very narrow minded approach, highly resistant to innovation, new ideas. Political contacts are more important for promotions, appraisals. Doesn't feel like a place where one can grow if they are not part of the right political group. Heard many cases wherein someone in the middle management got pissed off when a newcomer dared to voice his opinion in a meeting, sometimes the manager has even declared - "I will not forgive you for this". Demotivating for men with the overemphasis placed on promoting and developing women managers.

Pros

BP hires some of the best minds in their particular field and it shows. There are great benefits that come from working with any supermajor such as a nice gym, discounts, and 401k plans. BP has 9/80 weeks so you get every other friday off which really helps with work/life balance. Many of the employees are over 45, so there will be lots of opportunities for younger employees.

Cons

Typical cons of working for any large corporation: performance driven culture, change takes forever yet constantly occurs, hard to not work while on long vacations, etc. Engineers and geologists are put on a pedestal, so sometimes other functions feel like they are less important.
