Pros

bp was one of my favourite workplaces. - Salary and compensation was great. Flexible working, and ownership of projects. - Multiple projects and ability to move to different projects and pick up new skills. - Innovative

Cons

- Business transformation and redundancies happened every 2 years or so, so no job security. - You could be moved onto a completely different project every business transformation (1-2 years), and the projects may not be in your skillset, so you have to learn on the job. - bp are now starting to return to the office and recruiting heavily offshore, and as a software engineer most of my team were in India, so I'd sit in the office alone without a team around me, so working in the office doesn't make sense for a software dev when most team members are not in the UK.

Pros

Strong global reputation and stability BP is one of the world’s leading energy companies, offering job security and a recognizable name that adds value to your résumé. Competitive compensation and benefits Salaries, bonuses, insurance, retirement plans, and other perks are generally above industry average, especially in corporate and technical roles. International environment You get to work with colleagues from all over the world, often in diverse, cross-functional teams — a great opportunity to develop global communication skills. Focus on sustainability and innovation BP has been investing heavily in renewable energy and low-carbon initiatives, which can be motivating for employees who care about environmental impact. Professional development opportunities There are structured training programs, internal mobility options, and strong support for career growth within the company.

Cons

Large corporate bureaucracy Decision-making can be slow due to the company’s size and multiple layers of management. High performance pressure BP maintains ambitious targets, and the work culture can be demanding, especially in technical and leadership roles. Energy transition uncertainty The ongoing shift from fossil fuels to renewables sometimes creates internal tension and changing priorities. Limited flexibility in some departments Depending on the team or location, hybrid work options or work-life balance can vary significantly. Public image challenges Past environmental incidents and criticism of the oil industry can affect morale and how employees feel the company is perceived externally.
