Thoughtful leadership and careful growth

Pros

This company is unlike many of other startups in that the leadership team has been intentional about how and when we get funding and prefers to grow the company slowly and steadily. As such you will get more stability and work life balance than many other places. Clients genuinely find our product valuable and research is more stimulating than a boring saas product.

Cons

The slow and steady growth means you’d need to temper your expectation that you’re at a “rocketship.” The leadership believes strongly in a flat organizational structure and people are certainly not promoted every 6 months like some early stage companies, even when it’s deserved. They come from more formal consulting backgrounds, so some of their philosophy around career growth does show in that regard. There has been a lot of heads down hard work by many individuals and despite company growth I don’t see significant increases in salary or exciting career path opportunities for more than a couple of people. This may just be a reflection of the stage the company is at, and again you are getting far more stability than other startups, but it’s the biggest con I see about working at dscout. As a result we are seeing some longer term employees start to leave.

Pros

-Remote job with no forced requirement to work in the office -Excellent health benefits (but every company should have these as a minimum) -$1000 stipend to support career growth -flexible PTO (~25 days)

Cons

- there is no diversity and inclusion coordinator which is imperative for a growing company -the CXR team, specifically research advisors, are not paid enough for the work they do for project management, research design, research participant selection, and client engagement and support.

Once a great place to work. Now directionless and a dead end.

Pros

The best thing about Dscout is the coworkers. I met some really great, intelligent, and passionate people there. Also appreciated the remote-first work setup, despite them having a nice office downtown. Pay was comparable to other companies for the role, and I did receive a bonus while I worked there.

Cons

Where to start? I feel like Dscout was not prepared for the market shift towards AI products. They are currently throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks, without any sense of direction or purpose. Leadership is completely clueless, particularly when it comes to engineering. This was once a safe place to work at, but as of the last year or so, people get let go left and right without any sort of explanation or announcement. They are currently planning on getting rid of the entire QA department, which will create a huge roadblock for devs and support.
