      Still has potential, but need stronger leadership to turn things around

      Pros

      Opportunity to work with a lot of smart people, work on a online product with huge traffic. Although many employees have left, there are still a surprising number of employees on the front lines who are smart, competent, and really care about eBay customers.

      Cons

      Lot of good ideas, but there is a lack of operational excellence. I.e., Lack of a systematic, clear way of translating those good ideas into real changes. Also lot of work with questionable business impact.

      eCommerce leader going through some tough changes

      Pros

      eBay gives you good experience working on a high-traffic, high-visibility web site. It's a company that's great to have on the resume. You will learn a lot about development and business in a fast-paced eCommerce company. Also, eBay ownes a lot of companies so the opportunity for internal transfer to keep things new and interesting is good.

      Cons

      eBay is a big company that has not quite outgrown its fast paced startup roots. It is still very hard driving. Depending on where you are in the company, you may be worked pretty hard. Although it is not nearly as bad as it used to be. I set my limits now and don't have bad working hours. eBay is also going through some tough times right now trying to get their growth back, and that affects the employees with constantly switching priorities and high-pressure projects. As far as technology, you'll work on some cool stuff but if you always want to be on the cutting edge working with the latest frameworks this is not the best place to be.

      Pros

      The multicultural environment is great, and people do gain valuable insight into their respective areas of expertise. My department is staffed by wonderful, hardworking, intelligent people.

      Cons

      1. Disorganization 2. Shifting Priorities 3. Leadership that consumed too much of its own Koolaide and can't see reality. 4. The cost of living in the Bay area, is too high for the salaries and benefits to make working for eBay a serious long term proposition.
