Cons

I have been with eBay for nearly one year. When I was hired, I was told many times that I would advance quickly, and would not be in my position past 6 months. This was a big lie! Not only am I still in this position, but they’ve placed a freeze on their original “employee” matriculation plan of buy/sell/m2m. We had a meeting the other day to meet and talk with the new upper leadership and there was not one brown person on the panel. They were all white (and one Asian). This was very hurtful and disappointing. It sends the message that out of all of their thousands of employees, they couldn’t find 3-4 people of color (not just black, but of any other race) to make their leadership team more diverse. Their “Lower level”employees are very diverse and the company is huge, so I’m sure they could have made that panel more diverse. I feel extremely stagnant at eBay and as much as I’d love to stay with this company (just out of comfort and habit), I am actively seeking employment elsewhere. They say you can move up, they also offer temporary opportunities, but good luck with being seen and given that opportunity. When you start, they tell you to “be good to each other because you never know who will be your leader”. Basically, they tell you, you have to be “favored” by someone to actually move up. Some of the team leaders are great, but many of them don’t truly earn their place and it shows. And lastly, but most importantly, CREATE A FAIR METRICS PROGRAM!!!! Upper management makes all of these absurd policies that are not in the members favor, and when they take surveys, their dissatisfaction with eBay reflects on the representatives who try to help them, and we miss out on bonuses, pay increases, and other important things. It’s not fair. And the metrics we are to meet are unrealistic…. Place a member on hold and check in with them every 2 minutes… members HATE that! As a consumer, I hate when a rep comes back on the line just to tell me to keep holding. It’s silly! We also are penalized for transferring members…. If I am in buy and I get 10 back to back dispute calls, I have to transfer them!!! Why are MY metrics penalized because a member selected the wrong option when they call ? You now refuse to cross train, so I’m not able to help them. My point is, your metrics and methods for GCX are created by people who sit in an office (or at home) behind their desk and don’t have to actually deal with members, take calls or do any of the things we do! And even if at one point in time they did take calls, I’m almost sure it was eons ago!
